Elssle grew out of a simple, familiar frustration: you search for something online, but have to go through all kinds of intermediaries before finding what you are really looking for. Large aggregator websites, booking platforms and magazines fill the search results, while the company’s own website often fades into the background. Even with the arrival of AI, this remained a recurring frustration for us.
There had to be a better way. That is why we are building Elssle.
If you are looking for a hotel in Barcelona or Grindelwald, we want to take you straight to the hotels. To their own websites, where you can explore the rooms, compare the options and get in touch yourself. That idea is the foundation of our search engine: the original source deserves a prominent place.
And that applies to much more than hotels. From heating to cars, from software to toys: Elssle helps you find the businesses, products and information that match your search. With fewer detours and more room for relevant websites, even when there is no big platform behind them.
Building a search engine takes much more than a good idea. Behind every search result lies an extensive process of discovering, reading, understanding, organising and checking again. That requires technical expertise, server capacity and continuous development. We are happy to be open about that work: Elssle grows step by step as we build it every day.
Every day, we add tens of thousands of new results. At the same time, we improve how Elssle assesses websites, understands searches and presents results. Because a bigger search engine is only valuable if it also helps you search better.
Our ambition for the coming year is substantial: to build broad coverage across Europe and North and South America, with websites in the many languages that use the Latin alphabet. That is a considerable challenge. We work on it every day, paying attention both to the size of our index and to the quality of our results.
